Want to know what to watch this weekend? There are plenty of new movies and shows to stream on Netflix, HBO Max, Apple TV Plus, and more.

On TV, Issa Rae presents Rap Sh!t, a new comedy series based on the breakthroughs of Cardi B and Megan Thee Stallion. Ethan Hawke is filming a documentary series about one of Hollywood’s enduring couples, Paul Newman and Joan Woodward.

And fans will be excited to return for the return of Virgin River Season 4, The Try Season 3, and American Horror Stories Season 2.

Here’s our guide on what to watch this weekend. And be sure to check out this new HBO series with 100% Rotten Tomatoes. (will open in a new tab).

The Gray Man (Netflix)

Look, I’d probably watch something with Ryan Gosling, Chris Evans and Rare-Jean Page. The three of them could silently wander around the screen for two hours, and that would be completely fine with me. They’ve got a little more to do in this action-packed daddy life thriller featuring Ana de Armas, Jessica Henwick, Alfre Woodard and Billy Bob Thorne to make things a little more interesting.

Gosling is a court noble, also known as Sierra Six, the CIA’s most experienced mercenary. When he reveals some of the agency’s darkest secrets, he is forced to flee. Chris Evans sports a stunning mustache and enjoys munching landscapes as Lloyd Hansen, a psychopathic former colleague tasked with hunting down Gentry. Chasing cat and mouse, they travel the world – and into what Netflix likely hopes will be its next big franchise (and Gray Man 2 seems more than likely).

Rap Sh!t (HBO Max)

Insecure ended at the end of last year (sniff), but Issa Rae has created a new half-hour comedy to console us. Rae said that Rap Sh!t was inspired by the role of social media in the careers of Cardi B and Megan Thee Stallion as music superstars. The series is about two estranged high school friends who reunite to form a rap group.

Shona (Aida Osman) works at a hotel but dreams of becoming a successful rapper. Makeup artist Mia (KaMillion) is a single mother to a four-year-old daughter who works three jobs to make ends meet. Not only will they have to put their differences aside, but navigate the complex music industry, find online followers, and find a way to turn their art into real money.

Virgin River Season 4 (Netflix)

The child is on board – but who is the father? It’s time to call Maury Povich! When the third season of the romantic drama ended, Mal (Alexandra Breckenridge) was pregnant. But when she confessed she loved Jack (Martin Henderson) all over again, she wasn’t sure if it was his or the result of a leftover embryo created with her dead husband.

Despite this complication, Mel is looking forward to the future as she has wanted to be a mother for many years. Jack tries to be supportive, although the question of paternity worries him. A handsome new doctor (Mark Ghanime) doesn’t make things any easier. Meanwhile, Doc (Tim Matheson) is busy with his recently arrived long-lost grandson (Kai Bradbury) and Hope (Annette O’Toole) recovering from a traumatic brain injury.

Trying Season 3 (Apple TV Plus)

The underrated gem Apple Trying returns with milder humor about a London couple’s journey to become parents. At the end of season two, Nikki (Esther Smith) and Jason (Rafe Spall) finally become foster parents to Princess (Eden Togwell) and Tyler (Mickey Macanulty).

Now they feel the brunt of parental responsibility. They also begin to realize that supporting children (let alone legally adopting them) will not be easy, especially since the lease on their apartment is expiring and they will have to look for new housing.

The Last Movie Stars (HBO Max)

Two beautiful movie stars of the first magnitude meet, marry and live happily ever after. Well, maybe not the last part, since Hollywood romances are notorious for their short life. Ethan Hawke knows something about this from his marriage to Uma Thurman and subsequent divorce (they have two children together, including Stranger Things actress Maya Hawke). But as the director of this documentary series, he turns his attention to another couple whose love story began with a scandal but lasted more than 50 years.

Hawk uses archival footage and interviews to paint a portrait of a loving but flawed marriage between two showbiz stars. It traces their relationship from an illicit affair while Newman was married to his death in 2008.

Anything is Possible (Prime Video)

Pose icon Billy Porter is one Oscar away from the coveted EGOTH. His directorial debut Anything Is Possible may not be his ticket, but it’s a cute, funny coming-of-age novel that should appeal to more than just LGBTQ+ and Gen Z target audiences. Porter describes it as an “uplifting story” and an “almost fairy tale” .

Kelsa (Eve Rein) is a black transgender girl in high school. In art class, she is paired with Khal (Abubakr Ali), a popular cisgender boy. They feel a spark and begin to bond, but their relationship causes some difficulty in their social groups. While many trans stories
