There is a SHOCKING new footage of a truck driving into a garden center moments after crashing into the crowd at the Wilton Manors Pride Parade.
He came as Fort Lauderdale Mayor Dean Trantalis received backlash for calling the accident a “terrorist attack.”
Police said the incident at the Stonewall Pride Parade in Florida around 7:00 pm Saturday resulted in one death and another in critical condition.
The video, which emerged from the scene, shows a white truck with LGBTQ + flags entering the Fort Lauderdale Garden Center.
The driver, who was wearing a Fort Lauderdale Gay Men’s Chorus T-shirt, was arrested after allegedly hitting two men.
Meanwhile, Mayor Trantalis was criticized for his comments on the tragic incident, and many said he should have waited until all the facts were gathered before calling the incident a “terrorist attack on the LGBT community.”
“This is a terrorist attack on the LGBT community,” Trantalis told Local 10 Novosti on Saturday.
“This is exactly what it is. This is hardly an accident. It was intentional, intentional, and directed against a specific person.
“Fortunately, they missed this man, but unfortunately, they hit two more. “
His comments sparked outrage from social media users who posted him on Twitter.
“I hope @DeanTrantalis will be prosecuted and then removed or defeated. Government officials should not be able to so frivolously accuse anyone of ‘terrorism’ without facts, “conservative writer David Riboy tweeted.
“It would be nice if the mayor waited for the facts,” said conservative writer Carmine Sabia.
Former NYPD officer John Cardillo said, “The far-left Fort Lauderdale Mayor @DeanTrantalis must publicly back down and apologize.
“If the mayor had waited at least 15 minutes, he could have made a reasoned statement. In the video of the arrest, the conductor was wearing a gay men’s choir T-shirt, which was more than enough to [sow] reasonable doubts about the driver’s intentions, ”added Florida-based radio host Grant Stern.
Shocking footage from the scene shows MP Debbie Wasserman Schultz crying after the van nearly crashed into the convertible the Democrat was in.
A white van lined up with other floats at the start of the parade when it suddenly sped up and crushed two people at the event.
According to Broward County Sheriff Gregory Toney, both victims were taken by ambulance to Broward Medical Center, where one of them was later pronounced dead.
“This tragedy happened a few feet away from me and my BSO team, and we are devastated to see this terrible incident,” Tony said in a statement.
“Our prayers are addressed to the victims and their families. Be sure to kiss those you love tonight. “
They filmed footage of the police administering artificial respiration to one of the victims in the middle of the street.
A senior official, briefed on the matter, told CBS that early indications of Miami suggest it was an accident.
The truck driver reportedly told police that his foot was stuck between the accelerator pedal and the brake, causing him to lose control of the vehicle.
However, the official warned that the investigation is still at an early stage and more information is likely to emerge.
The Fort Lauderdale Gay Choir has released a statement to the WLPG confirming that the driver is a member of the choir since two men were hit by his car.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with those who were affected by the tragic incident that occurred when the Stonewall Pride was just beginning,” the group said.
“Our fellow choir members were injured and the driver was also a member of the Horus family.
“As far as I know, this was not an attack on the LGBTQ community. We expect more details to follow and ask for the community’s love and support. “
The police still have not provided any information that the incident was deliberate.
Spectator Christina Curry, who was at the parade with her husband and two children, told The Sun Sentinel that she believed the incident was “deliberate.”
“We were at the start of the parade, right in front of Fort Lauderdale High School,” Curry said.
“All of a sudden, there was a heavy truck crash and an accident over the fence … It was definitely deliberate action right across the lane. “
The circumstances of the incident remain unclear.
The truck almost passed by US Representative Debbie Wasserman Schultz, who was parading in a convertible with the campaign crest.
A WPLG reporter said the truck appeared to target the Democrat’s car but “missed” before crushing the two victims.
Schultz was captured in tears on the phone in the car when the police arrived.
She then released a statement saying that she was “deeply shocked and devastated to have lost her life” during the parade.
“Fortunately, my volunteers and I are safe. I want to thank our first responders for their heroic efforts as the police and ambulance staff responded quickly.
“We pray for the victims and their loved ones while law enforcement is investigating, and I give them everything I can to help. I am so heartbroken by what happened during this celebration. May the memory of a lost life be a blessing, ”she said.
Florida Agriculture Commissioner Nikki Fried was also at the parade on Saturday, she confirmed in a tweet.
“I am lucky to be safe, but at least two people have been injured and in critical condition,” she wrote.
“We all pray here for them and their families. “
Law enforcement has not yet returned a request for additional information to the US Sun.
The parade was suspended while the police were working at the scene.
“Due to the tragic event, the Stonewall Pride Parade has been canceled, but festival activities will continue,” Wilton Manors wrote in a Facebook post.
“There is no danger to the population,” the department added.
