By the end of the week, Switzerland will receive more than 600,000 new doses of coronavirus vaccine. Alain Berset announced this on Tuesday after visiting Granges (SO), the country’s first vaccination center for cars, which operates for a week.

“We are on the right track,” said a federal media advisor in Solothurn. “Vaccinations are very effective and we are one of the few countries that only vaccinate with vaccines of the mRNA type, which is the best,” said Alain Berset.

Switzerland currently vaccinates about three million people a month. 3.2 million people were vaccinated once and nearly 2 million received both injections. “A quarter of the population is still not enough to stop the pandemic,” the health minister warned.

Variety of vaccination sites

Therefore, Alain Beerset advocated the principle of diversity of vaccination sites in order to reach as many people as possible. He praised the initiative of the Canton of Solothurn to open the first vaccination center in Grange on June 1. Two other centers of this type opened last Friday in Zuchwil (South Africa) and on Tuesday in Lostorf (South Africa).

At the three entrances, vaccine candidates do not need to get out of the car. Formalities, health problems and the vaccination itself are handled through the car window. These centers are open Monday through Sunday until late weekday evenings. A “drive-by car” that the Federal Counselor visited is installed at the Grange Fire Station.

The certificate can be used from July

With regard to the launch of the Covid certificate for vaccinated, tested or people who have undergone the disease, Alain Berce recalled that the initial phase has begun and will continue through June. “We started earlier than many other countries.” The certificate can be used from the beginning of July in Switzerland. “This is a huge logistical challenge.”

Fribourgeois also announced Friday that it is holding consultations on the next phase of anti-pandemic mitigation. The Federal Council will make a decision on this towards the end of the month. These relaxations will operate from July throughout the summer.
