This week, AMD announced the porting of its 4th generation AMD EPYC processors to embedded systems. Embedded EPYC processors based on the “Zen 4” architecture provide technologies and features for embedded networking, security/firewall and storage systems in cloud and enterprise computing, as well as industrial edge servers for factory floors, according to AMD. The AMD EPYC Embedded 9004 delivers worldclass performance and efficiency, advanced data protection features, and unmatched core scalability of the EPYC 9004 series server processor, and provides unique builtin benefits to help improve system reliability and longevity, including:
– Nontransparent bridging (NTB): Helps improve system reliability by allowing communication between two redundant CPUs.
– Nonvolatile dual inline memory module (NVDIMM1): NVDIMM is a hybrid memory consisting of volatile DRAM and nonvolatile flash memory that helps retain data after a system power failure or reset by storing the contents of the DRAM in flash memory.
– Dual Serial Peripheral Interface (SPI): Provides support for two external ROMs for secure boot.
– Availability: Planned availability for up to 7 years to meet builtin durability and support requirements.
