Apple donates $ 1,000 to all staff, postpones return to office

Apple indefinitely postpones plans to return to the office for its employees as the Omicron variant of the coronavirus spreads in the United States.

In a memo to staff and reported by Bloomberg, Apple CEO Tim Cook said the latest postponement was due to “an increase in cases in many parts of the world and the emergence of a new strain of the virus,” and urged employees to get vaccinated and give reminders. The date by which staff will be required to return to physical workspaces is “to be determined,” Cook added.

According to The Verge, Apple also gives all employees a $ 1,000 bonus, which they are encouraged to use to purchase work-from-home equipment. “Please note that when you return to the office, you will bring your Apple equipment, so you will need to think about what you want for your home workspace,” Cook wrote in his letter.

Another resignation

This delay once again changes Apple’s plans to return corporate staff to the office. As the Delta variant continued to roll out over the summer, Apple postponed the return-to-office date to at least January 2022, then postponed it again until November, saying that staff could return in physical workspaces beginning on January 1. February.

At the time, Apple said it was testing a “hybrid work pilot” in which workers came to the office one or two days a week. The company aims to allow most employees to work from home up to twice a week, on Wednesdays and Fridays.

Tim Cook said in the memo that Apple’s offices remain open and many employees come in regularly, including their teams in China. “As we look forward to seeing more of our teams together again, we will continue to make decisions based on local conditions and will make sure to give them at least four weeks notice before starting the pilot,” Cook wrote.

The move came as the United States faces an increase in cases of Covid-19 and the fast-spreading Omicron variant. Earlier this month, Apple closed several physical stores in the United States after staff at some sites tested positive for Covid-19. Apple has also required that staff wear masks in all of its US stores.
