Apple Maps now shows Crimea as part of Ukraine

We learned yesterday that Apple stopped selling its devices in Russia due to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine and is now making changes to Apple Maps.

Crimea was annexed by Russia from Ukraine back in 2014, and in 2019 Apple made the controversial decision to include it in Russia for everyone who lived there.

Users from other parts of the world were shown Crimea as an independent region, Apple and Google were instructed by Russia to show Crimea as part of their country.

Apple now shows Crimea again as part of Ukraine, which it hasn’t done since 2019, though if you’re in Russia it still shows up as part of Russia on their maps.

Changes have been made to Maps as well as their Weather apps on iPhone and iPad, I wonder if Apple will make this change in Russia as well.

Apple and a number of companies stop trading in Russia, companies such as Ikea, Google and many others leave the country because of what Russia is doing in Ukraine.

More and more countries are expected to pull their businesses out of Russia, and Russia is facing massive sanctions from around the world.
