Apple TV: a new version is in preparation with support for 4K 120 Hz –

After Google with its new Chromecast, then Amazon and its numerous Fire TVs, it would now be Apple’s turn to strengthen its position in the multimedia box market. The American firm would prepare an upgrade of its Apple TV, this is in any case what our colleagues from 9to5Mac who analyzed the source code of tvOS 14.5.

An Apple TV for gamers?

Reference is made several times to support for 120 Hz. We can therefore deduce that it will be able to offer content in 4K at 120 Hz. This means that it will have an HDMI 2.1 port to exploit this capacity. The current generation does offer 4K, but only at 60 Hz, it makes do with an HDMI 2.0 port.

With the switch to 120 Hz, Apple no doubt hopes to attract gamers and at the same time promote its Apple Arcade service. This should also make the interface smoother and guarantee a better browsing experience. Obviously, to enjoy it you also need a compatible TV.

In addition to Apple TV, there are HDMI 2.1 ports with support for 4K 120 Hz on new generation consoles (PS5 and Xbox Series X).
