Before the development of Half-Life: Alyx, 5 projects were abandoned, including Half-Life 3

Today, thanks to the release of the interactive Half-Life Story Book: Alyx – Final Hours, a lot of information about the Half-Life saga is re-emerging.

In this interactive documentary available on Steam for € 8.19, Geoff Keighley, the creator of Half-Life: Alyx, the virtual reality episode of the Half-Life saga, confides and affirms that during these ten or The last fifteen years, between Half-Life 2: Episode Two and Half-Life: Alyx, that the studio has worked on a total of five projects. Unfortunately for the fans, one of them was the long-awaited Half-Life 3. Indeed, Geoff Keighley and his team worked between 2013 and 2014 to set up the third installment of the saga. The latter had to use the Source 2 engine, offer procedural generation and at the same time be inspired by Left 4 Dead. With this idea in mind, the developers wanted to make Half-Life 3, a game with great replayability. Unfortunately, as you already know, the latter was later abandoned, the fault with the Source 2 engine, which at the time, was not yet over.

Geoff Keighley also talks about four other canceled projects including another Half-Life production in virtual reality, but also an open world RPG inspired by big video game sagas such as Monster Hunter, Dark Souls and The Elder Scrolls. In 2016, therefore, after many mistakes, several employees of the company decided to join the team currently dispersed on too many projects to set up Half-Life: Alyx, the FPS in virtual reality released on March 23.

Unfortunately, despite the good news, the Half-Life: Alyx game team has doubts about Valve’s intentions. According to the developers, it may be that the American studio is not yet ready to set up a project of this magnitude.
