Black Friday is almost here, which means the internet will soon be inundated with a veritable sea of cheap technology. However, as always, there is a difference between getting a good deal and simply buying something cheap. When it comes to Black Friday game deals, that logic still holds. You could end up saving hundreds of dollars on some really great gear, or you could end up with a ton of bargain merchandise, which would be a bad deal at any cost.
Since it’s difficult to know which particular items will and won’t go on sale for Black Friday, as a video game and gaming hardware reviewer, I think it’s generally best to give broad recommendations. This way, readers will have all the resources they need to make informed decisions, whether they are looking for a $ 1,500 laptop or a $ 15 video game. With some basic recommendations on each category of game in mind, you can pull off the Get the most for your money, whether that means shopping on Black Friday or waiting until another price drop.
However, an important caveat: everything in this article is a general recommendation. If you see a really amazing offer in a category that I don’t recommend buying, or a really horrible offer in a category that I recommend buying, you will have to use your best judgment. One of the exciting (and frustrating) things about Black Friday is that anything could go on sale, at any discount, and you may not have much time to decide whether to buy it. In that scenario, all I can recommend is picking a budget and sticking to it, so you don’t find yourself facing a serious case of buyer’s remorse in December.
Black Friday Gaming Desk Deals: Maybe
Normally, I wouldn’t recommend buying pre-built gaming desktops on Black Friday. This may seem counterintuitive, as pre-designed gaming desktops are often available at deep discounts, which can save readers hundreds of dollars. The problem is, these machines tend to be from second-rate manufacturers rather than trustworthy brands like Dell, HP, and Corsair. Getting all the parts you want at a great price sounds great on paper, but you might not be as excited if your system is poorly built or lacking in customer service.
However, this year, I can’t put a resounding “no” to prebuilt gaming desktops. The reason is simple: it is basically impossible to build a PC from scratch right now. If you want PC parts, particularly GPUs, purchasing prebuilt components is usually your only viable option. As such, an imperfect and inexpensive gaming PC is considerably better than no gaming PC. Just be sure to read as many reviews as you can before buying any PC, as this is a piece of equipment that you will probably get stuck with for a while.

Black Friday gaming laptop deals: maybe
Black Friday is the best time to buy gaming laptops, if you listen to Amazon, Newegg, Best Buy, and similar sites. Retailers often slash gaming laptop prices by hundreds of dollars, even at big brands like Razer, MSI, and Alienware. While I’ve seen some shoddy laptops that went on sale during previous Black Fridays, I’ve seen some great models too.
There are two reasons why I would remain cautious and flag this category as “maybe”. The first is that Black Friday, like Prime Day, is primarily about cleaning up inventory space to make room for next year’s stock. As such, there are a lot of outdated equipment available, and they are not always discounted as much as they should. Second, seeing a laptop available at a discount of hundreds of dollars can make a purchase of more than $ 1,000 feel like an impulse purchase. You must resist this urge. If you’ve been planning to get a gaming laptop, Black Friday may be a great time to get one; otherwise, don’t spend thousands of dollars on something you don’t really need.

Black Friday Gaming Monitor Deals: No
Maybe this year will be different, but I’ve never seen great deals on gaming monitors on Black Friday. I’ve seen some good and many forgettable, but nothing that made me sit back and say, “We will never see a deal like that again.”
Gaming monitors are a tricky category, with dozens of variables on each slightly different model: resolution, refresh rate, panel composition, USB-C connectivity, etc. Each gaming setup will have slightly different requirements, and the odds that the exact monitor you need will make a significant sale are astronomically low. Feel free to keep an eye out, but generally speaking, you’d just search for the perfect monitor for your setup and then buy it, even if it’s full retail price.

Black Friday Game Console Deals: No

Trying to write about Black Friday game console deals in 2021 almost seems like a cruel joke. Nobody can get a PlayStation 5; no one can get an Xbox Series X; no one can get a Nintendo Switch OLED. Maybe you can get a basic Switch or Switch Lite, but if last year is any indication, even a PS4 or Xbox One is a pipe dream. Consider yourself lucky if you can lift a console during one of the infrequent and paltry refills; any discount will almost certainly be part of a prohibitively expensive package or an outright scam.

Black Friday Gaming Mouse Deals: Yes

I’ve written about the Black Friday deals on gaming mice, keyboards, and headsets in a separate article, so I won’t repeat my entire argument here. But generally speaking, we’ve seen incredible deals on gaming mice in recent years. Companies like Razer and Logitech slash prices for fan favorites like the Logitech G502 or the Razer DeathAdder V2. Not only are the discounts significant, but the mice themselves are also great peripherals. Make sure to stick with well-known brands, such as Razer, Logitech, and SteelSeries. But if you see a good deal on a mouse, feel free to pick it up.

Black Friday Gaming Keyboard Deals: Maybe
Maybe it’s because gaming keyboards are somewhat more complex peripherals than gaming mice, but I’ve never seen absolutely incredible Black Friday sales for them. Amazon or Best Buy may cut $ 20 or $ 30 off a popular gaming keyboard, but you probably won’t see one for half the price, or less, as is often the case with mice.
Still, if you’re looking for a gaming keyboard, Black Friday is at least a good time to look. If the exact model you want is on sale, it’s better to save $ 20 than to save nothing at all. But if you are not married to any particular gaming keyboard, you better save your money and keep doing your research. They may be on sale again at Christmas or something better will come out early next year.

Black Friday Gaming Headset Deals: Yes
I was hesitant about whether I should recommend gaming headsets on Black Friday, as many models don’t get much of a difference in price. If you’re in the market for high-end wireless headphones, you shouldn’t expect a huge difference in price. These peripherals tend to sell well regardless of price, so retailers don’t have much of an incentive to discount them.
On the other hand, wired gaming headsets are often heavily discounted, reducing the $ 100 to $ 50 models, or the $ 50 to $ 30 models. While I tend to recommend wireless gaming headsets if you can afford them , 3.5mm wired headphones are good options for console gamers as they can simply connect the peripherals to their controllers. Plus, these inexpensive helmets make a great gift for kids and teens, who may never have owned exclusive gaming helmets before.

Black Friday Gaming Chair Deals: No

It’s been a few years since gaming chairs hit the market in force, and I’m not entirely sure what to do with them. They are expensive, garish, and often not as comfortable as a good office chair. If you are absolutely dedicated to shopping for a gaming chair, I grant you that there are a handful of great deals, including up to $ 150 off some of our favorite models. But at least take a look at some similarly priced office chairs before pulling the trigger. They look better and often feel better too.

Black Friday Video Game Deals: Yes
I’ve saved the best for last. There’s a Black Friday game deal that’s been consistently good, year after year, and it’s on the video games themselves. Game inventory must take up a lot of space in retailers’ warehouses, because they always seem eager to pawn as many games as possible, as cheaply as possible. Between the “buy two get one free” sales and the big individual discounts, you could theoretically walk away with five or six video games for the price of two or three.
I don’t have any strong recommendations in this category, as the video games you will want to buy are entirely dependent on your tastes, or the tastes of the person you are buying for. But I’ll say that even the newest games, like Far Cry 6 or Ghost of Tsushima Director’s Cut are out now, so you can imagine what Black Friday might bring.

Black Friday Game Deals: Outlook
While I can’t predict exactly which team will be worth their money on Black Friday, I can say that I’ve collected these observations over eight years covering Black Friday game sales. During that time, I saved a great deal of money on video games and helped connect friends and family to hardware they might not have otherwise been able to afford. If you are looking for a special gift for games on Black Friday, I hope you find it, and if not, remember, the sales will return for Christmas and New Years.
