Beginning this May, a barrage of Star Wars bounty hunters arrives at Marvel Comics in an epic crossover series spanning five games featuring mercenaries from all corners of space.
Marvel’s War of the Bounty Hunters was spawned by a frenzied 2019 presentation given by bestselling writer Charles Soul (High Republic: Light of the Jedi), where he asked what happened to Boba Fett when he delivered the frozen body. Han Solo Jabba the Hutt after The Empire Strikes Back but before Return of the Jedi.
To answer this mystery, an ambitious multiplayer event kicks off on May 5 with War of the Bounty Hunters Alpha # 1, a prelude release written by Charles Soule with illustrations by Steve McNiven.

“Boba Fett is clearly not taking Han Solo straight to Jabba’s palace,” Soul told StarWars.com. “Something must have happened between the Empire and the Jedi. And I thought, “I would like to tell this story, and I would like it to be about Boba Fett and what is happening to him.”
From now on, the event will unfold on the flagship roster of Marvel games, including Star Wars, Star Wars: Bounty Hunters, Star Wars: Darth Vader, and Star Wars: Doctor Afra. The spin-off begins with special prelude issues throughout May.
“Boba Fett wields Han Solo at the end of Empire Strikes Back, but he is not at the beginning of The Bounty Hunter War,” Saul said. “And he will do his best to get him back no matter what. No matter who stands in his way. “
In June, the crossover picks up steam with a resounding five-issue Bounty Hunter War miniseries from Soul and artist Luke Ross, where the entire galaxy, from Rebellion to Empire, collides in a bid for the grand prize: Han Solo!
“The main story we’re dealing with is Boba Fett’s crime epic, in which Boba Fett battles some of the most powerful attackers in the galaxy,” Soul added. “This is Jabba the Hutt. This is “Black Sun”. This is Darth Vader. And a bunch of others – factions and so on – that I think will be really interesting for fans. Basically, this is Boba Fett, one against all these people. “
Soule claims this is arguably the biggest Star Wars story Marvel has ever hosted, and he admits the event is a genuine collaboration between him and many Star Wars experts such as writers Greg Pak ( “Darth Vader”), Alyssa Wong (“Doctor Afra”) and Ethan Sachs (“Bounty Hunters”).
“My co-authors on this story and all the great artists we work with are a fantastic team,” he notes for StarWars.com. “It may have come from my brain to some extent, but we all add something to it, and we all add really interesting things to it. Everyone has to tell their own story in this overarching plot, in which Boba Fett tries to get what belongs to him. “
