Call of Duty: Activision is set to release the next three games on PlayStation, and then…

Although Activision Blizzard will soon integrate Microsoft, the future of Call of Duty does not seem to become exclusive to Xbox / PC at the moment. According to a new article, the next annual Call ofs will also be on PlayStation.

Bloomberg explains that prior to the announcement of Xbox’s $69 billion acquisition of Activision Blizzard, the Call of Duty developer had already signed on to make the next Call of Duty available on all platforms, including PlayStation.

According to journalist Jason SchreierThis includes Call of Duty 2022, Call of Duty 2023, and Warzone 2, also scheduled for 2023.

However, after that, the future of the license outside of the Xbox and Windows platforms is uncertain. Xbox boss Phil Spencer tweeted last week that during his call with Sony insiders, he explained that he intended to “honor all existing agreements” between Activision and Sony.

When Xbox acquired ZeniMax Media, the company also reaffirmed its commitment to existing deals and Arkane’s Deathloop or Tango Gameworks’ upcoming title Ghostwire: Tokyo are PS5 exclusives. But Bethesda’s Starfield is now an Xbox exclusive.

Sources close to the Activision deal say that for at least the next two years, Xbox will honor its commitments to release Call of Duty games on PlayStation. But with the completion of the acquisition during 2022, Microsoft will be able to re-examine the future of the license.

This also includes determining whether or not it remains annual, a traditional Call ofs schedule for years. Experts at Activisions have already discussed spacing out the outputs a bit.

The effects of the Activision Xbox deal are likely to still be felt for years to come, but from the handling of the Bethesda acquisition, we can see Microsoft targeting exclusives. Experts remain undecided on the issue, with Phil Spencer also wondering which old Activision licenses could be revitalized (Guitar Hero?)
