Cambunji 7th in the 100m, in 11”11

Mujinga Kambunji finished 7th in the 100m at the Eugene Meeting, Diamond League third event. The Bernese reached 11:11 in a race won by Elaine Thompson-Hera (10:79).

The indoor 60m world champion wasn’t explosive enough on her first steps to get close to the 11-second barrier that the top five of that race passed under. However, she surpassed the time achieved the week before by 0.06 seconds during the Swiss Club Championship in Geneva in her first 100 m of the season.

Elaine Thompson-Hera, for her part, had a resounding success on the track, where she panicked the stopwatch last August (10:54). Jamaica beat American Sha’Karri Richardson (2nd) and her compatriot Sherika Jackson (3rd) both by 10 minutes and 92 seconds. Britain’s Dina Asher-Smith finished 4th in 10’98.

Second Swiss in the Prefontaine Classic, Jonas Raess had to settle for 13th and penultimate place in the 1500m, his first outing of the season. The Zurichian (3’42”56), specialist in the 5000m and 10000m, was almost 5 seconds short of his personal best at that distance. The victory went to New Zealander Samuel Tanner (3’34”37).
