France will not escape: the country is hit by an epidemiological recovery. If incidence rates are worrying, many departments are also showing a significant increase in virus-linked hospitalizations. La Dépêche du Midi takes stock.
Will France really save itself from a fifth wave of pollutions? At a time when epidemiological recovery is exploding throughout Europe, France displayed “good student” status on the continent. On Wednesday, November 10, the Minister of Health, Olivier Véran explained that the country was the subject of an episode “that clearly resembles a fifth wave of contaminations”: “The big difference is that because we are overwhelmingly vaccinated, because we have healthy “. pass, because we respect the barrier gestures, we can pass this wave like 4, with few patients in hospitals and few deaths, “insisted the minister.

This increase in pollution is identified in many French departments: only two departments have seen their incidence rate decrease in the last two weeks. These are Deux-Sèvres and Haute-Loire. Lozère, meanwhile, has the highest incidence rate in the country. According to the latest figures published by Public Health France, the health authorities have registered more than 174 new cases of Covid-19 for every 100,000 inhabitants in the place. The departments of Ardèche and Haute-Corse are also in red, with an incidence rate exceeding the bar of 150 cases per 100,000 inhabitants, as shown by the maps below (if no map is shown, please disable your blocker) advertisements).
In the last two weeks, the department of Ariège has recorded the largest increase in its incidence rate in France: it has increased by 283% since the week of October 22 and now reaches a maximum of 138 cases per 100,000 inhabitants (compared to only 36.1 cases two weeks ago).
Increasing pressure on French hospitals
This Friday, November 12, France exceeded 7,000 hospitalizations linked to Covid-19: a level that had not been crossed since October 6. Across the country, 7,046 people are currently hospitalized with the virus. This figure increased 7.8% in two weeks. At the same time, certain departments are showing a particularly larger increase in the number of hospitalized patients.
This is the case, for example, in the Hautes Pyrenees, where the number of patients admitted for Covid-19 has doubled in the space of two weeks. It is in Ardèche where the increase in hospitalizations has been the highest in two weeks: the number of patients with Covid-19 has increased by 108% in the territory’s hospitals.
