CM HEB accepts cryptocurrency in some of its stores in Texas Cameroon Magazine

Whenever I write about HEB I say something like “we are so blessed to have them” or “HEB is one of the best things about life in Texas”.

Well, I’m not going to stop anytime soon, because A) I sincerely believe it B) they continue to find ways to surprise us and meet more Texans in new and innovative ways.

Good news for crypto fans – some HEB stores are setting up cryptocurrency kiosks that give you the option of using digital dollars like Bitcoin, Dogecoin, or Ethereum to pay for your stuff.

The disappointment – they’re only in the Houston area so far. But that’s pretty exciting news for people who love digital currency for whatever reason: they don’t trust banks, they like flexibility, or they just like to say that they bought a basket full of digital currency. ‘grocery store with something called Dogecoin.

So it’s not just HEB that makes this magic happen. The Houston Chronicle reports that the Las Vegas, Nevada-based company Coin Cloud is setting up the kiosks, which will allow customers not only to pay with crypto, but also to buy or sell crypto in cash or on credit directly in the store.

If you’re like me, you’ve probably had a hard time figuring out what exactly cryptocurrency is.

Full Disclosure: I still scratch my head a bit when much more knowledgeable people talk about it. But, I have found that videos like the one below do a great job of explaining it in layman’s terms.

At a very basic level, cryptocurrencies are a decentralized, unregulated digital currency that is considered more secure and in many cases offers buyers more anonymity and protection.

That remains to be seen, but if those who are settled in the Houston area are doing well, I think we’ll see them sooner or later. HEB is Texas-based and focused, and I think they could roll it out pretty quickly statewide if Coin Cloud can keep pace.

I imagine there is also talk of giving customers a crypto option for online orders as well.

The company has not said if it will create its own cryptocurrency at some point. It’s just me thinking about the possibility and having a little fun.

HEB, and any company for that matter, could choose to build their own crypto, which would essentially be like arcades issuing their own tokens at the time. This would raise the question of whether they would only accept HEB cryptocurrency, or whether they would just give certain discounts for using it instead of Bitcoin or Dogecoin.
