BRUSSELS (Reuters) – The European Commission announced on Thursday the signing, on behalf of the member states, of a contract with the British laboratory AstraZeneca which provides for the delivery of at least 300 million doses of its candidate vaccine against COVID-19 .

An agreement in principle was reached in mid-August.

This is the first contract signed by the EU with a manufacturer of COVID-19 vaccines. It provides for an option to purchase 100 million additional doses to be distributed according to the population of each of the Member States.
