“Above all, avoid general re-containment”. In an agreed interview on Friday with the daily “Nice Matin”, Prime Minister Jean Castex was firm on the subject. According to him, a general reconfinement of the population would be “catastrophic” both economically and socially.

“We now know what it produces: such a measure breaks the progression of the epidemic, of course, but at the economic and social level, it is catastrophic, including for the psychological health of some of our fellow citizens”, insisted the head of government. “The priority is still prevention,” he stressed, denying that this term of re-containment is “a taboo word”.

Localized reconfigurations

Jean Castex is also reassuring about the spread of the virus. “Even if the number of cases is on the rise again, positive tests remain in low averages compared to the countries around us. And hospitalizations remain at a controlled level, ”he insists in this interview granted on the sidelines of his trip to the city focused on the theme of insecurity.

Re-containment cannot be ruled out, however. “It can be very localized reconfigurations”, concedes the Minister: “We will adapt”. “To fight against this pandemic, there are simple things to do and not to do, called barrier gestures, until the day a vaccine is found”, concludes the Prime Minister.

Viral circulation is “sharply increasing” in France, with more than 1,000 new cases of coronavirus per day, the Directorate General of Health (DGS) announced on Friday. The Covid epidemic has claimed 30,000 lives in France.
