All children from 5 to 11 years old can be vaccinated against Covid-19 as of this Wednesday, Health Minister Olivier Véran announced on Wednesday morning.

The vaccination of children between 5 and 11 years of age is officially open, Health Minister Olivier Véran announced on Wednesday, December 22, who for his part indicated that the booster dose was not extended to adolescents “for the time being.”

“We open the official vaccination for children” of this age group, declared the minister on BFMTV, specifying that in the appointment sites the category of 5-11 years would be opened “in the morning.”

The minister formalized this measure after having “had the favorable opinions of the health and scientific authorities.” So far, since December 15, the vaccination of children aged 5 to 11 years at risk has only been open.

“We really have to start with this vaccination of children,” he said. “All you need is the agreement of one of the two parents, one of the parents will have to be physically present,” he recalled.

Some 350 centers will ensure with “a particular circuit” the vaccination of children, the minister explained.

100,000 contaminations per day at the end of the year

The High Health Authority (HAS) had given the green light on Monday to vaccinate children between 5 and 11 years old – on a voluntary basis – after the Ethics Committee (CCNE) this Friday. The final opinion was released Wednesday morning by the Vaccine Strategy Guidance Council.

The opening of vaccination for children ages 5 to 11 comes at a time when the Omicron variant, which is more contagious, should soon become the majority in France. Olivier Véran specified that this variant, which currently represents between 20% and 30% of the contaminations in France, should become the majority between Christmas and New Year, with consequences in the number of new contaminations. These should reach 100,000 a day before the end of the year, warned the Minister of Health, Olivier Véran.

For her part, the Minister of Labor, Élisabeth Borne, called on companies to “accelerate” the use of telework in the face of Covid-19, asking them to prepare “from now on” to “strengthen” it at the beginning of the school year with a goal of 3 to 4 days a week.

It is clear that with the situation it is necessary to accelerate, to promote teleworking (…). I ask companies to prepare now to reinforce teleworking at the beginning of the school year, therefore on January 3, with a minimum target of three days. for positions that allow it, or even four days when possible ”, declared the minister on Wednesday morning on Europe 1.
