Starting Monday, Quebec will offer rapid COVID-19 tests to parents of children over one year of age who attend daycare and show symptoms of the virus.
The tests will be given to parents by the daycare service their child attends and can be used at home.
Therefore, the government wants to “simplify” the daily life of parents, particularly as the Christmas season approaches.
“When a child older than one year presents symptoms similar to those of COVID-19, the child care service will give the parents one or more detection kits (depending on the number of people in the child’s home), so that the child and family can do a rapid screening test at home, ”a press release reads.
It also explains that parents should accompany the child to a screening center if the rapid test result is positive to confirm the result obtained.
“Nevertheless, [les tests rapides] they have lower reliability compared to tests commonly used in the laboratory. That is why it is necessary to have a confirmed positive result in a screening center, ”he says.
Delivery of kits to child care centers will vary by region. If in some regions they will receive the first supply by direct delivery to their surroundings, in other parts they will have to obtain the screening kits at the storage centers designated by the CISSS or CIUSSS, indicates the Ministry of Health and Social Services.
However, the government has not specified where exactly these different methods would be used.
