Due to a reaction to the Covid-19 vaccine, tennis player Jérémy Chardy announced that he would suspend his season due to physical disability. This is also the case for French triathlete Antoine Méchin and Christophe Lemaitre, who failed to make it to the Tokyo Olympics.

Covid-19 vaccines can sometimes cause side effects, usually mild. However, some people seem to have been more severely affected and become depressed after a reaction to the vaccine. This is particularly the case of the French tennis player Jérémy Chardy, forced to suspend his season, as he announced on September 24 to AFP.

“Since I was vaccinated, I have a problem, I have a series of struggles. Suddenly, I cannot train, I cannot play,” he laments, explaining that he feels violent pain throughout his body as soon as he makes a physical effort. Vaccinated with Pfizer, the athlete, 73rd in the world, wondered about the origin of these disabling pains. He explains that he left seeing two doctors, having tests done, “that way I know what I have and the most important thing is to take care of myself.” Closer to the end of his career than the beginning, he regrets this waste of time and “having done the vaccine, but I couldn’t know it.”“. “The problem is that we do not have a retrospective view of the vaccine. There are people who have had similar things, but the durations have been really different,” adds Jérémy Chardy.

Another athlete has announced that he has to finish his season, after a reaction to the Moderna vaccine, this time. Antoine Méchin, French triathlete, evoked at the end of September with Sud Ouest, his pulmonary embolism, which he claims to be linked to the vaccine. According to him, the cardiologist at the Bordeaux sports clinic told him He explained “they have never seen this (he and his peers) in some time with an increasing number of sports patients in the same case.” In treatment, he hopes to regain lung capacity in the coming months and also indicates that “he would not be vaccinated again if he had to do it again.”

Before that, in June 2021, shortly before the Tokyo Olympics, the athlete Christophe Lemaitre indicated that he could not attend the competition, after having reacted badly to the Covid-19 vaccine.
