This advice may not be followed by the government but, while Olivier Véran, the Minister of Health, must announce new health measures, it nonetheless seems prescient. In an opinion issued this Thursday morning, the High Health Authority (HAS) recommends generalizing the injection of a vaccine booster to all adults from 18 years of age.
The HAS also estimates that the time between the last injection and the injection of this booster dose can be reduced to five months, while it is currently six. If the European Medicines Agency (EMA) has validated the injection of a third dose of vaccine to all adults, this approval specifies, however, that the injection must take place “at least six months after the second dose”.

An extension to more than 50 years in early December.
At the moment, the injection of a booster dose (second dose for those who received Covid before vaccination and those vaccinated with the Janssen vaccine, fourth dose for immunosuppressed, third dose for others) is reserved for those over 65 years of age. . The government has already announced the extension of the impeachment campaign to more than 50 since the beginning of December.
Already last Friday, the HAS had recommended extending the vaccination campaign to more than 40 years. But, with a “resumption of the epidemic even stronger than expected”, he now considers that “the worrying epidemic context justifies an acceleration of the vaccination campaign by shortening the time between the primary vaccination and the booster dose.”
A reduction in the hospital peak
The HAS is based, in particular, on projections from the Institut Pasteur, which assess the reduction in the peak of hospitalizations if the booster dose is administered after 18 years of age. According to the HAS, this reduction is 39% if the booster is performed six months after the last injection, and increases to 50% if the booster is performed at five months. The High Authority for Health assures that the merits of this strategy are also illustrated by “data from real-life studies carried out in Israel.”
Beyond the reminder, “it is essential to continue efforts to vaccinate people who have not yet been vaccinated,” stresses the HAS. Finally, he insists on “strengthening adherence to barrier gestures at a high level” to “preserve the health system and avoid restrictive measures.”
