SNK held a panel at the Evo 2022 event today where they unveiled King of Fighters 15, their latest fighting game.
There was no new trailer for KOF15 due out on Sunday, but there were a few informational announcements. According to the company, the Awakened Orochi team will launch on August 8th.
The developer also revealed that King of Fighters 15’s cross-platform multiplayer is in development for all versions of the game.
While there is no specific timeline, the studio does mention that a crossplay update is planned for 2023.
Cross-platform play King of Fighters 15 is currently in development, according to the team of Chief Producer Yasuyuki Oda, Associate Producer Joshua Weatherford, and Game Director Kaito Soranaki, who made the announcement during the SNK Dev Panel at EVO 2022.
The game is currently playable on PC (via Steam), Playstation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. The SNK team does not yet have a release date for the cross-platform game, but intends to provide one as soon as it becomes available.
While The King of Fighters 15 garnered the most attention, the SNK team is still working on Samurai Shodown and will be working with Code Mystics to include the rollback network code in a future release.
Recovery will be included on the Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC versions of the game (via Steam and the Epic Games Store).
Unfortunately, due to technical limitations, it will not be available for Google Stadia or Nintendo Switch. The GGPO solution currently used in The King of Fighters 15 will serve as the basis for the Restoration network code update, which will be available in Spring 2023.
At EVO 2022, SNK will have more to say. The third team DLC for The King of Fighters 15 (Team Awakened Orochi) will be released next Monday, and the fourth team DLC revealed will also take place on the same day. After the KOF 15 final on Sunday.
