Perhaps the name “Dark Matter” will already tell you something, since indeed in the period from 2015 to 2017 there was a series of the same name broadcast on Syfy. It was canceled after the third season. This new series called “Dark Matter” will have nothing to do with it. This is a film adaptation of Blake Crouch’s novel of the same name, written in 2016 and having a real success. This novel was released in France under the same title in 2018.
AppleTV+ announced this project at the end of 2020, and it reveals a bit more today.
The series follows Jason Dessen, played by Joel Edgerton (Obi-Wan Kenobi’s Underground Railroad), a physicist, professor, and family man. One day, when he returns home to the streets of Chicago, he is kidnapped and thrown into an alternate version of his life. The miracle of leaving will quickly turn into a real nightmare as he attempts to return to his reality, traversing all the lives he could possibly have. In this real labyrinth of realities, he will have to fight to find his life and his family, forced to save them from the worst enemy imaginable: himself.
So, we know that Joel Edgerton will play the lead role. And AppleTV+ introduced the rest of the cast, including the arrival of Jennifer Connelly, who will play his wife Daniela. Jennifer Connelly was recently seen in the TV series Snowpiercer and also in Top Gun: Maverick.
Author Blake Crouch will serve as writer, showrunner and executive producer. Joel Edgerton, Matt Tolmach (Spider-Man: No Way Home) and David Manperl (Jumanji: The Next Level) will also executive produce. Jacob Verbruggen (House of Cards, Black Mirror, Invasion) will direct the first three episodes.
At the moment, the broadcast date has not been announced, but we will definitely send you all the information as soon as it becomes known!
