Samurai who draw their katana with Demon Slayer, survivors ready to fight with zombies in Back 4 Blood and soldiers who point their weapons at the evil entities of House of Ashes. Here are the three video games that we recommend this week, a few days before Halloween.

Demon Slayer: The Hinokami Chronicles
A true hit on the Wakanim streaming platform and manga bookstore shelves, the Demon Slayer series hits consoles for the holidays and the launch of the second season of the anime. Therefore we meet Tanjiro, the famous demon slayer, his sister Nezuko as well as his friends Zenitsu and Hinosuke, who will draw their katanas to fight with the beings of darkness.
In this explosive fighting game where the protagonists of the saga face off in a duel, fans will appreciate the intensity of the fights. We can blame him for a story mode that is content to track only the events of season 1 of the series and the movie The Infinity Train, released in theaters last summer. It is still a game well calibrated to follow the Demon Slayer universe and have fun thanks to the staging of spectacular duels.

Back 4 Blood
Not everyone had a chance to play Left 4 Dead in 2008 or its sequel a year later … Even if it succeeds in World War Z on the same theme, Back 4 Blood (from the same creators as L4D) returns to its roots offering a multiplayer experience under the sign of cooperation. Forget the stage. Here, four heroes / heroines must survive hordes of zombies, period. There is no open world here, but rather extended levels that will be needed, weapons in hand, to attempt to cross. The missions can vary: rescuing survivors, transporting packages (one of the players is held by the hands and cannot use a weapon), traversing an area densely populated by rigid … there is something to do and coordination between the different members of the team. equipment quickly becomes essential. If you don’t like talking to your neighbor, go on your way.
To try to survive you have to chat, argue, debate … otherwise the game will end quite quickly. Unless you’re playing “easy” mode, going through each level is intense. You have to find care, ammunition and other essential elements for your progress. Added to this is a card / perk system that allows characters to earn assets that will need to be carefully chosen before each mission. A way to bring a touch of originality to a concept that, in short, remains ultra classic … at least for those who knew Left 4 Dead. For others, the vast majority of players will only have to find a handful of friends to face this fun and bloody end of the world.

The Dark Pictures Anthology: House of Ashes
Address Mesopotamia, 2000 years before our era! For this third work in their Dark Pictures Anthology, British studio SuperMassive changes the scene and signs up for their gruesome new story. After a long introduction, the story takes us back to 2003 in the middle of the war in Iraq. House of Ashes is inspired by real historical elements. There, a squad of Marines goes in search of suspected chemical weapons buried in Saddam Hussein’s country. But that is something else that awaits you once underground … It goes without saying more about the plot that is inspired by the Sumerian myths around the demon Pazuzu and the hell called “house of ashes”.
As for the change of scenery, this episode works. What to make a difference with the first two opus even if the mechanics of the game remain more or less the same. The cinematic staging and the QTE (you have to press a button at the right time) constitute the very essence of this title that, once again, offers multiple branches of the script. Many dialogues mark these underground pilgrimages. You have to choose the answer you want to give, often in a limited time, to guide the story but also the relationships between the characters. Where House of Ashes stands out is that it puts more emphasis on the possibility of doing nothing. Not acting or saying anything constitutes an action in itself and can also have consequences … sometimes happy! Just because the game asks you to press a button doesn’t mean it should. Beyond the scary jumps (you have to play with headphones), House of Ashes manages to create a real tension as well as atmosphere. It is true that the modeling of the characters is uneven, the staging sometimes curious and the action sequences a bit slow, but despite that, the formula still works. We hung up, to have the end of the story as well as to discover which characters will survive this journey to the heart of Eastern mythologies.
