Digital tax: Mayor hopes for support from Biden team

PARIS (Reuters) – Bruno Le Maire, who will contact the team of President-elect of the United States Joe Biden on Monday, hoped that the future administration will quickly support the principle of a reorganization of the international taxation of digital companies.

“I really hope that this new Biden administration will mark a new start in relations between Europe and the United States,” the French Minister of Economy and Finance said in an online interview with Bloomberg TV .

“One possibility of marking this new beginning would be to obtain a consensus at the level of the OECD by the beginning of next year,” he added.

Nearly 140 countries agreed in mid-October to extend until mid-2021 the discussions organized under the aegis of the OECD (Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development) on the question of the taxation of large multinational companies. .

The original timetable was for an agreement by the end of the year but it has been battered by the coronavirus pandemic and the hesitation of the United States in the run-up to the presidential election on November 3.

In the absence of an international framework, a growing number of governments stand ready to impose national rules.
