Discord messaging coming to Xbox – Geeko

Xbox consoles will support Discord voice chat.

An update is currently being rolled out for Xbox Insiders. This will allow Xbox Series and Xbox One players who have linked their Discord and Xbox accounts to share voice chat or use group calls with other Discord users.

With this new update, it will be possible to chat with friends playing on consoles, mobile phones and PCs. “Planning multiple Halo Infinite matches with friends on both console and PC? Want to explore new biomes with your friends in Minecraft? Do you see them playing a cross-platform compatible game? Connect with their vocal group and chat while you play. When playing on the console, you will be able to see who is in the group and who is talking. You’ll also be able to adjust the volume and switch between Discord chat and Xbox voice chat,” explains Microsoft.

Specifically, players will see a new “Join on Xbox” option in the Discord mobile app. According to Microsoft, they will need the Xbox app to transfer voice chat from their Discord account to Xbox. Linking two accounts is easy by scanning a QR code.

So the integration won’t be as smooth as it would be on desktop, since strictly speaking the Xbox console doesn’t offer a Discord app. Discord calls will be redirected to the console via third party apps.
