Available from November on the game console, the Apple TV app now supports Dolby Vision with the latest update.
In the war between PlayStation and Xbox, Microsoft and its store seem to be one step ahead of Sony. Available since November on both consoles next gen, the Apple TV application now supports Dolby Vision on Xbox Series X | S, as announced by the American giant on its site.
Enable Dolby Vision on Xbox
As a reminder, Dolby Vision is a technology capable of considerably improving the visualization of content, by offering more data than HDR for example. However, you will need to be equipped with a compatible television to be able to benefit from it. To start experiencing this with your Dolby Vision ready TV, you need to enable and check “Allow Dolby Vision” in Settings> General> TV & Display Options> Video Modes on your console.

In its press release, Microsoft explains that series like “Ted Lasso” or “See” with Jason Momoa, alias Aquaman, will be visible in optimal quality, including in terms of sound thanks to Dolby Atmos, the sound counterpart of Dolby Vision .
Listen to your podcasts during your game
Another novelty, on the Spotify side this time, video podcasts are finally arriving. From the Swedish streaming platform’s app, players will be able to play a video podcast both in full screen and in the background during their game. The smartphone can still be used as a remote control to take control of your playback without you having to interrupt your game. Best of all, all these changes are available immediately as long as you update your console.
At Frandroid, we noted the irony of the relationship between Apple and Xbox. Indeed, the firm at the apple offered its video streaming service on consoles next gen while at the same time it blocked xCloud, Microsoft’s cloud gaming service… Could we see some clarification? Still, all this does not prevent the apple from improving the quality of Apple TV.
