Dr Martin Luther King, Jr. arrives at Fortnite Marseille News

No, you didn’t read that headline wrong at all. Yes, the simulation is getting a little crazy. Fortnite is really partnering with TIME to bring Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. into the game. It’s, uh, pretty wild to say the least.

They call the event a “Walk in Time,” according to a Playstation blog post. Players will be able to embark on an “immersive journey” through time to witness Dr. King’s “I Have a Dream” speech in Washington DC circa 1963.

It sounds, uh, pretty wild to say the least. I’m not sure anyone saw this coming from Fortnite. Never, really. And I have questions.

The first one is, excuse me?

It’s … it’s a real thing …

It’s weird, man. But it’s not the worst thing in the world. It could legitimately teach Dr. King to a younger population, which is always a good thing. And people can listen to the entire speech, which we all need to do as often as possible.

But it will only be good if it teaches the full significance of what Dr King believed. Its messages of non-violence have been distorted and whitewashed over the years. There is so much that we are still wrong about it today.

I, uh, have a strong feeling that won’t be what’s going on here. We will see.
