Dreame D10 Plus robot vacuum test: job well done

Ease of use

The D10 Plus is far from revolutionary. In appearance, it is similar to previous Dreame models: a round white plastic body, a large bumper and an air intake at the rear.

There are two buttons on the top of the robot that tell it to start cleaning, return to its base, and quickly clean around it (by briefly pressing the return to base command).

As for navigation, like its two friends (D9 and L10 Pro), the D10 Plus is equipped with a laser rangefinder. The turret looking at the robot allows you to display the environment being cleaned on the map. Thus, the device can better determine its location and even optimize its route so as not to waste time. However, in this model, this technology is the only one that improves the navigation of the robot. Other vacuum cleaners sometimes add a camera and sensors; obviously knowing that the more technology they put in, the better the navigation. We’re thinking in particular of the Roborock S7 MaxV Ultra, which doesn’t skimp on the means to improve the navigation of its vacuum cleaner.

When the Dreame is turned upside down, we immediately distinguish two large cogwheels. They frame the main brush, which consists of rubber blades and nylon bristles. The three-toothed brush serves as reinforcement to better dig out debris stuck in corners and along walls. Whether it’s the first or the second, these two brushes are detachable and easy to remove from the robot.

The mop and 145 ml water tank are also removable. They complete the cleaning by dampening the floor to remove lightly encrusted marks and stains. Indeed, this cloth, which does not vibrate or rotate, therefore cannot be compared with the cleaning efficiency of more advanced robots such as the Ecovacs Deebot X1 Turbo. However, the D10 Plus main wash system allows you to reduce the number of cleaning sessions and quickly transform your home.

A dust collector and a HEPA filter are hidden under the hood. The 400 ml collector allows you to store leftovers before dumping them into the dust container of the docking station. If it’s the most classic, we still regret that its opening system isn’t more practical; for example, its predecessor, the L10 Pro, was better thought out.

It’s time to talk about the docking station that comes with the robot. Compact (only 40 cm high and 30 cm wide) it will fit into most interiors, unlike more imposing stands like the Roborock S7 Pro Ultra. However, it lacks a control panel with the basic options to start an automatic drain and return to base. Finally, this station consists of a tray to keep the robot from messing up the floor.

Communication and application

Dreame is part of the Xiaomi ecosystem, its devices can be controlled from both the Dreamehome app and Mi Home. The interface is the same on both platforms, so the user chooses which one to download. For example, it would be wiser to choose one that combines several connected products present at home.

One way or another, the user can remotely control his vacuum cleaner through his smartphone. After pairing the robot, you can quickly start cleaning from the home screen, as well as ask him to return to his base. In particular, the robot may vacuum the entire house, a certain area, or in particular one or more rooms in the house. Conversely, he may be denied access to certain locations; knowing that the robot can display multiple environments thanks to its multi-story option.

Dreame offers four suction powers and three water flow rates. Obviously, you can choose to vacuum, wash, or do both at the same time. Automatic draining is also user configurable.

Finally, other options are available in the device settings, such as clearing history and remote control.

Service

As we said earlier, two brushes are removable, which makes it much easier to care for them. After washing, the water tank is emptied, the mop can be machine washed at 60°C. It is also preferable to clear it right after the session because Dreame only provides one.

As for the dust collector, the automatic drain does all the dirty work for us. Two dust bags come with a base for added convenience.

It is still the user’s responsibility to clean the HEPA filter with clean water on a fairly regular basis and to let it dry for 24 hours before putting it back in place. The app also tells us the exact time before the filter loses its effectiveness.

But before we wrap up this part, we need to elaborate on its filtering characteristics. To evaluate them, spread 20 g of cocoa powder on the floor. And after starting the automatic drain of the bin, we found 1.1 g of cocoa stuck in the recesses of the filter. This result is more than satisfactory and puts the D10 Plus filtering among the best among the tested devices.

Navigation system

To locate itself in the environment, the D10 Plus can rely on its laser rangefinder, but only this one. The robot does not have a camera and is not the most generous with sensors. For example, it forgoes side sensors, which can be useful for correct obstacle avoidance.

We start cleaning and observe the behavior of Dreame. The vacuum cleaner starts by walking around the area or room to be vacuumed; he can also split it in two if it’s too big for him. The robot then starts moving in a zigzag pattern to cover the entire surface.

To make sure the cleaner doesn’t miss, we place ten 10g piles of sawdust in strategic locations in our lab. We leave the D10 Plus running and come back after the task is completed. It took the vacuum cleaner 27 minutes to vacuum our 24 m² lab. We weigh its collector and find that it has collected 76.5 g of sawdust. If this result is not perfect, you should know that its navigation system should not be questioned. Indeed, the robot covered the surface well, but it seems that its brush is not the most efficient. It is she who fails to correctly pick up the waste, especially in the corners and along the baseboards.

In addition, the D10 Plus considers curtains as obstacles and does not climb under them. The sawdust is then still present on the other side of the curtain. Please note that this situation is typical for vacuum cleaners equipped with a laser rangefinder; so don’t panic. Faced with our water bottle, Dreame stops and avoids it with no problem; which cannot be said about the thin cable, which he prefers to swallow. Finally, it’s not a problem to get through the bars of the chair: he climbs up on them to pick up the sawdust present on the other side.

Suction

Now we are evaluating its suction capacity. Like its competitors, we spread 100g of rice on three different surfaces: hard floor, thin carpet and thick carpet.

On hard ground, his brush tends to throw out grains of rice. Thus, in standard mode, the robot cannot achieve 100% success like Samsung Jet Bot AI+, and eventually reaches 94%. It works better in fast mode as it picks up 98% of the rice grains.

A thin carpet suits him, as he swallows almost all the rice in standard mode and 98% at maximum intensity.

As for the thick carpet, this is the most difficult surface for robots. The D10 Plus then collects almost 75% of the rice spread in standard mode and 80% in fast mode. If these results may seem average, the Dreame is nonetheless one of the top performing models in our comparison. Indeed, some competitors do go out of their way to absorb the leftovers; Xiaomi Vacuum-Mop 2S, for example, collected only 21% of rice grains in standard mode, and then 31% in accelerated mode.

How does assessment work?

Dreame introduces the D10 Plus, a no-frills robot vacuum cleaner. The device captures dust correctly, on all types of surfaces. Its discreet base drains the collector and adapts to many interiors. With excellent autonomy, minimal noise levels and an optional mop, the D10 Plus is more than an attractive device. However, it lacks a pair of sensors and a redesigned side brush for greater efficiency.
