E3 2023: Sony, Microsoft and Nintendo are missing this year –

The Electronic Entertainment Expo, better known as E3, returns as a physical event this summer for the first time since 2019, but apparently without support from Sony, Microsoft or Nintendo. According to IGN, citing several unnamed sources, the three console makers behind the PlayStation, Xbox, and Switch will not be attending the party or attending the show floor.

Nintendo and Sony have opted out of the show in past years, and neither has held special press conferences again – Nintendo left after the 2012 release (deciding to only do virtual Nintendo Directs a la place), and PlayStation was last in 2018 year. Looks like Microsoft will also be holding its own event in Los Angeles this summer.

E3 2023 is scheduled for June 13-16 at the Los Angeles Convention Center. It will be led by a new organizer, ReedPop, who is also in charge of PAX, Star Wars Celebration and New York Comic Con. The video game convention was canceled in 2020 and held as a virtual event in 2021 due to the pandemic. It was supposed to return in 2022 but was eventually canceled so ESA could focus on the 2023 event.

Neither ReedPop, Sony, Microsoft, nor Nintendo immediately responded to CNET.com’s requests for comment.
