Elon Musk proposes to reinstate Trump on Twitter

New Twitter boss Elon Musk suggested in a tweet that Donald Trump could be using the platform again. It currently invites users to vote on the issue in a Twitter poll. “Vox populi, vox Dei,” he added, meaning “the voice of the people is the voice of God.”

At the time of this writing, just under 22 hours remained before the vote, and the “yes” vote gained 58.7%.

Elon Musk, an outspoken advocate for free speech, has suggested in recent months that the former president’s Twitter account be restored. But while he’s officially the head of the social network, a new poll appears to further flesh out those speculations.

Donald Trump was banned from Twitter and Facebook after his supporters stormed the Capitol. His own social platform, Truth Social, has also been banned from Google Play. In the summer of 2021, he filed a complaint against Facebook, Twitter, Google and their bosses, accusing them of “censorship”.

On Friday, Elon Musk announced that he would restore suspended Twitter accounts. These accounts – Kathy Griffin, Jordan Peterson and Babylon Bee – owned by well-known public figures, personify the American left or right media bubbles.

“The reason I bought Twitter is because it’s important for the future of civilization to have a digital commons where a wide range of beliefs can be discussed in a healthy way without resorting to violence,” Elon Musk said the day after formalizing his Twitter purchase.
