Elon Musk Suspends Paid Certifications After Several Controversies

New coasters for Elon Musk. Two days after dropping the new “official” certification badge, Elon Musk has finally reintroduced the “official” badge to certify certain profiles.

“To combat identity theft, we have added an ‘official’ symbol to some accounts,” Twitter said in a statement. This gray logo appeared on the profiles of many advertisers, as well as for a short time on the Twitter account.

It was first introduced Wednesday on the social media site but was quickly removed by its new boss, the quirky owner of Tesla and SpaceX.

In this big mess, Twitter also announced the end of the $8 certification fee for any account. Since its inception, many fake celebrity or big business accounts have popped up.

Pharmaceutical company Eli Lilly had to apologize on Thursday after a well-placed tweet from an account in her name with a blue checkmark promising free insulin.

Since he bought Twitter, Elon Musk has laid off half of his 7,500 employees and launched several projects, including a redesign of paid subscriptions, but is currently facing numerous waves of protest.
