Elon Musk: The world record that cost him $183 billion

Elon Musk’s new world record. Indeed, he managed to lose the most money in the world. Guinness World Records, a global organization that tracks all kinds of records, announced him as the winner after Forbes calculated that Elon Musk lost a total of $183 billion.

To be fair, the $320 billion Musk was worth at its peak in November 2021 is a record in itself. But things haven’t gone well for Musk since then, Tesla shares, most of which he still owns, have plummeted, and Musk’s $44 billion acquisition of Twitter has only made matters worse.

With a current net worth of around $137 billion, Musk has also lost his status as the world’s richest man, and that honor now goes to LVMH founder Bernard Arnault, who is worth an estimated $190 billion.

While Guinness World Records knows it’s impossible to accurately estimate the exact figure for Musk’s fortune loss, the organization says it’s certainly much higher than the previous record set by Japanese tech investor Masayoshi Son, who recorded losses. $58.6 billion in 2000.
