Esports: Montpellier will host an international League of Legends competition this fall

Next autumn, the city of Montpellier will host the finals of the eSports championship based on the famous League of Legends (LoL) video game.

The best teams from the famous video game “League of Legends” (LoL) will compete this fall in Montpellier, the city of Montpellier and the region of Occitania have announced.

The League of Legends EMEA Championship (LEC) final is one of the most anticipated events of the year, with teams from Europe, the Middle East and Africa taking part.

Organized by LoL game developer Riot Games, several thousand spectators are expected at the Sud de France Arena in Montpellier.

In comparison, the 2022 League of Legends competition in Malmö, Sweden, attracted about 20,000 people from dozens of countries in two days.

League of Legends is the most popular PC game in the world and plays an important role in the popularity and professionalization of esports. The task of the players, gathered in teams of five people, is to destroy the enemy base while protecting their own.

The exact dates of this competition, which will be attended by the “top three teams” of the region, are not specified.

The metropolis of Montpellier has been investing part of its economic development in the cultural and creative industries sector for more than 20 years.

It is home to renowned schools in the field of video games and 3D animation, as well as world-famous studios such as Ubisoft, Blue Twelve and Fortiche.

In terms of esports, events such as Zevent and several editions of Occitanie Esport have already been hosted here.
