(Reuters) – The European Union wants to gain additional powers to control and sanction tech giants, the Financial Times reported on Sunday.
In particular, the EU plans to force GAFAs to sell part of their activities in Europe if their dominant position threatens the interests of consumers or smaller rival companies.
In an interview with the FT, the European Commissioner for the Internal Market, Thierry Breton, specifies that the proposed measures, which would only apply in exceptional circumstances, also provide for prohibiting GAFA from accessing the common market.
