A new adventure begins for the EVO, the Evolution Championship Series, a cultural event offering since 1996 many tournaments on popular fighting games. Indeed, Sony Interactive Entertainment has collaborated with RTS, a brand new organization dedicated to eSports, to acquire Evolution Championship Series.

The news has just been shared on the official Sony Interactive Entertainment website: after several partnerships between PlayStation and the EVO, Sony decides to buy the biggest fighting games tournament with the help of RTS, the company’s subsidiary. Endeavor directed by Stuart Saw.

Despite this new acquisition, Sony announces that EVO co-founders Tom and Tony Cannon will remain involved in the project to ensure the tournament continues its dynamic growth.

To celebrate this new event, Sony announces that the EVO will return this year with a digital edition called EVO Online. The latter will take place from August 6 to 8 and from August 13 to 15 and will welcome players from North America, Europe, Asia and South America for free to participate in tournaments on titles like Tekken 7, Street Fighter V: Champion Edition, Mortal Kombat 11 or Guilty Gear Strive, the new creation of Arc System Works (Dragon Ball FighterZ) expected for June 11 on PC, PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4.
