October 4 started badly for Facebook. The world’s most popular social network crashed around 8:45 a.m. California time (that is, 5:45 p.m. French time). But it’s not just Facebook: Instagram, WhatsApp, and Facebook Messenger have also broken down.
While Facebook has yet to communicate what is happening with this total social media outage, website status services such as DownForEveryoneOrJustMe and DownDetector are reporting that Facebook is down. The problem is present in the United States, but it has also crossed American borders: numerous reports indicate that the site is out of service in Europe and the Middle East. Also in France, the site has stopped working and the group’s applications are showing difficulties.
Some Facebook users report seeing an error message that says, “Sorry, there was a problem. We are working on it and we will fix it as soon as possible ”. Instagram and WhatsApp users report “5xx server error”.
Facebook Communications Director Andy Stone tweeted: “We are aware that some people have difficulty accessing our applications and products. We are working to get things back to normal as soon as possible and we apologize for any inconvenience. “
Dirty day for the social network, which was accused that same morning by Frances Haugen, on the 60 Minutes program, of having carried out investigations that prove that her platform amplifies hatred, misinformation and political disorder to maximize its profits, and this in detriment to the public good. Before all the group’s sites and apps face a general blackout.
