Meta has announced the addition of some new features to its Facebook Messenger app, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg revealed.
This includes new features such as endtoend encrypted chat topics, and they will also expand endtoend encryption for chats in more countries.
We have also begun to gradually expand testing of standard endtoend encryption for Messenger. We know that people need space to communicate, and they want to know that these conversations are private, safe and secure. That’s why we’ve taken the time to build a team of talented engineers, cryptologists, designers, and policy experts who are all committed to bringing endtoend encryption to Messenger by default.
Over the next few months, more people will see some of their chats gradually updated with the added layer of protection provided by endtoend encryption. We will notify people in these individual chat threads as they are updated. We know people will have questions about how we select and update individual streams, so we wanted to be clear that this is a random process. It is designed to be random so as not to have a negative impact on our infrastructure and people’s chat experience. It also ensures that our new endtoend encrypted streams continue to provide people with a fast, reliable and rich Messenger experience.
