Square Enix announced the delay in a new blog post, as well as the most recent live stream of the game with producer and director Naoki Yoshida. According to the announcement, the release of Final Fantasy XIV: Endwalker has been delayed two weeks from its original release date of November 23. The expansion is now scheduled for December 7. In addition to apologizing to fans and taking responsibility for the delay, Yoshida explained that the change to the release date is intended to give the studio enough time to make sure the new expansion is stable. He also added that due to the time spent making sure the expansion story was the best possible, the development team ended up reducing the time spent on final QA checks.
