Microsoft has been struggling to get closer to Japanese studios, with more and more ports of Japanese Xbox games coming through Game Pass, but the company has yet to get its hands on any of Enix’s Square’s most popular games of the moment. We’re talking about Final Fantasy XIV here, only available on PC and PlayStation consoles, despite Phil Spencer announcing that the MMO will one day come to Xbox consoles. Except it’s been 3 years since the Xbox big boss said it and the port is still nowhere to be seen. But the idea is not abandoned.
Ongoing collaboration between Microsoft and Square Enix
During the Tokyo Game Show, Phil Spencer was able to speak to many media outlets, including Game Watch (with an exchange relayed by VGC) back for the release of Final Fantasy XIV. Clearly amused by the reminder, Spencer said with a smile:
“Naturally, we haven’t given up yet. This is a commitment from Microsoft and Square Enix to gamers, and we will continue to coordinate our efforts. »
So it seems like work is still going on, even though it’s not currently a priority for Naoki Yoshida and his team. But there is clearly some hope, at least on Phil Spencer’s side.
