Firefox is rolling out its new edition, version 89, which offers a redesign of the user interface. According to Mozilla, it is “cleaner, more welcoming and easier to use”.
A new interface
The new interface, named Proton, uses more verticality for tabs, introduces background colors instead of tab separators, and adds white to the main menu, which is rearranged with most of it. icons deleted.
“Floating tabs neatly present surface information and cues when you need them, like visual indicators for audio controls. The rounded design of the active tab promotes focus and signals the ability to easily move the tab as needed, ”Mozilla explains in its update notes on the redesign of tabs.
If you don’t like the new look of Firefox, its new features, or even the change in general, it is possible to cancel the Proton version. For that, it will be necessary to go in the configuration of the navigator and to deactivate browser.proton.enabled.
Firefox 89 also arrives with updated infobars, panels, and modals, and context menus are now native to MacOS and support dark mode. Mozilla claims to have also introduced non-native web form controls, which can improve the design and performance of pages. “Watch out for layout bugs in web pages that make assumptions about the dimensions or style of form controls,” the publisher cautions.
The browser now also has full cookie protection by default in its private browsing windows. “This means that when you open an incognito window, each website you visit has a separate cookie box, which limits cookies to that site. Cookies can no longer be used to follow you from site to site and collect your browsing history, ”Mozilla explains in a blog post.
Since February, when Firefox 86 was launched, Full Cookie Protection was enabled when users had enhanced Strict Mode Tracking Protection.
