Science fiction or almost reality? Recently, when asked by RTL about the possibility of flying out of France in 5 years and being in New York in less than an hour, Gwynn Shotwell, President of Space X, answered in the affirmative.

30 minute flight vs 8 hours by plane

To do this, the company, founded by Elon Musk, intends to develop a rocket that, when launched at a speed of 27,000 kilometers per hour, will connect Paris to the Big Apple in 30 minutes, compared to about 8 hours for an aircraft currently.

“This is definitely an opportunity for our Starship rocket. At the moment, we are concentrating on the Moon, Mars, as well as flights from one point to another on Earth, ”explains the RTL leader.

Flights that will not operate from Roissy-Charles-de-Gaulle or Orly airports, but from designated areas. “The company wants to launch its first flights from platforms at sea, but this should not last long,” the radio points out.

Space X also considers Los Angeles/Shanghai in 36 minutes or Sydney/Zurich in 50 minutes.
