After uniquely designed but somewhat confusing Galaxy Buds Live, Samsung is returning to a more conventional format. Galaxy Buds Pro take over the design “Button” from previous generations with an in-ear conception. However, they are distinguished by a hull with a chrome finish which, it must be admitted, does not go unnoticed.

This version “Pro” has an active noise reduction system based on three microphones and configurable from the mobile application. A specific treatment has been carried out to limit wind noise and thus also improve the quality of calls. Note that the noise reduction system works in conjunction with the ” Ambient Sound », Which on the contrary amplifies external noise. So when you speak, the device detects your voice, lowers the music and automatically activates Ambient Sound. When you stop, the volume goes up and noise reduction returns. A novelty borrowed from the Sony WH-1000XM4.
Samsung is also introducing the ” Auto switch », Compatible only with devices from the Samsung ecosystem (as at Apple this time). As its name suggests, it allows you to switch from one brand device to another quickly. If you watch a video on your tablet and at the same time receive a call on your phone, the headphones automatically switch to it.
The Buds Pro use the same battery as the Buds Live, so the battery life is quite close but slightly less. Samsung announces 5 hours of listening when noise canceling is on and the carrying case recovers 13 additional hours, or 18 hours in total.
Finally, the audio part relies on a 6.5mm tweeter and an 11mm woofer and they are IPX7 certified (only the headphones, not the charging case) which means that they withstand total immersion in water (1m max depth for 30 min max).
Price and availability
Several colors are available: Gray, Blue or Black. Galaxy Buds Pro are included in the Galaxy S21 Ultra pre-order offer until January 28. On their own, they will be officially available from January 29 at a price of 229 euros. A price that positions them in direct competition with the best models on the market, in particular the Sony WF-1000XM3, the AirPods Pro and the Sennheiser Momentum TW2, which are a little more expensive. Little Buds will therefore have a lot to do to go the distance.
