Game news Game Awards 2020: Audience figures finally revealed!
In a series of tweets, Geoff Keighley revealed the audience figures for the 2020 edition of the Game Awards, broadcast on the night of December 10 to 11, which greatly exceeded those of previous years.
83 million people watched the Game Awards 2020 live, all media combined. This is what Geoff Keighley, presenter of the event, revealed on his Twitter account last night. An impressive figure which represents nearly double the audience of last year which was 45.2 million, more precisely an increase of 83%. As a reminder, during the first edition in 2014, the event was only watched by 1.4 million people.
During the ceremony, highest peak simultaneous viewers reached with 8.3 million people, including 2.63 million viewers on Twitch, double last year. Watching time has also increased, by 129%, through various streaming platforms such as Twitch, YouTube or Facebook Gaming. An exploit made possible in particular by the more than 9,000 streamers who broadcast the event on Twitch
Finally, the event was also very popular on Twitter, with the hashtag #TheGameAwards used 107% more than last year. A real success therefore for this 2020 edition which has managed to emerge despite the health situation.
This year #TheGameAwards viewership grew over 83% to more than 83 million livestreams.
This is beyond our wildest expectations; I was just happy we could even produce the show this year.
Thank you for watching and being a part of this global community. pic.twitter.com/gAKIb68jHp
