Get your free Terraforming Mars video game now from Epic Games

The digital version of the popular board game Terraforming Mars is available for free from Epic Games until Thursday morning (May 12).

If you act quickly, PC players will be able to purchase the base game from the Epic Games Store until Thursday at 11:00 AM ET (15:00 GMT). If you still want a physical board game, the basic version of Terraforming Mars is still on sale on Amazon at 22% off, saving you just over $15 compared to its $69.95 price tag.

The popular space board game sets players up for long-term settlement of the Red Planet. The game is set in the 2400s and represents an era where humans are redesigning (or terraforming) their environment to increase oxygen levels, raise temperatures, and increase ocean coverage to improve habitability.

The “Terraform Mars” sale comes during a big attempt to get to the Red Planet in real life. While we’re not quite at the point where we’re planning to change the planet right now, we have numerous Martian missions in orbit and on the surface looking for ancient signs of habitability.

For example, NASA’s Perseverance rover is looking for traces of ancient microbes, which the agency and its partner, the European Space Agency, will send back to Earth with sample returns no earlier than 2033.

The digital version of Terraforming Mars was first released in 2018 with the assistance of Jacob Frixelius, the author of the original board game. It comes with add-ons that you will have to pay for at this time. One expansion includes additional Hellas and Elysium maps, while another expansion, Prelude, focuses on additional game mechanics and expansions.
