God of War: A Man, His Ax and His Son – Octopus.com

After more than 16 years of PlayStation exclusivity (save for a few escapades on the mobile gaming side), the God of War series is making a successful entry onto the PC scene.

Originally released in 2018 on PS4, God of War is the eighth installment in the series of the same name, to which its success has not failed to breathe new life. He knew how to modernize the series at all levels to establish himself as a reference among action and adventure games, either in its mechanics or in its sense of entertainment.

And while PS5 owners will soon be able to try out its sequel, subtitled Ragnarök, God of War is coming to PC for some bicep exercises.

An idea from Sony to push players to get the sequel… and the console? Probable. But it would be crazy to complain about it, because the offer is superb.

On a graphic level, God of War benefits from notable improvements on PC, with the addition of two higher levels of quality applicable to various variables. Shadows, highlights, and small particles, in particular, gain detail and clarity.

You’ll need a fairly capable graphics card to get the most out of it, but it’s still more of a luxury than a necessity, as God of War is one of the best looking games of 2018. It’s hard to say it’s really old. .

This port no longer suffers from stability problems or other noteworthy technical pitfalls. In short, it was carried out with the necessary seriousness.

The one notable artifact from its console past: God of War is designed for the controller, much less the keyboard and mouse, which don’t allow for a very natural grip during combat.

Rather, it cleverly exploits the design of most controllers to deliver exciting and responsive combat.

The basics are classic: quick attacks, powerful attacks, special attacks, parries, dodges, or even ranged attacks. But the sequences are spectacular and the combinations are well thought out, easy to remember and pleasantly overwhelming. Using combos well, we discover one of the best combat systems in its genre.

God of War has a relatively accessible base difficulty level. It will offer a challenge for newcomers to the genre, while regulars will probably want to step it up. There are, at this level, options for all tastes. Since this is not a punishing game, a difficulty level where death is a threat without being overly frequent is probably ideal for most players, regardless of that level.

single father despite himself

The God of War series needs no introduction, but it doesn’t matter, because having played it is absolutely not necessary to embark on this new adventure.

Play as Kratos, a Greek god with a warrior pedigree and a troubled family history. Tired of beating up family members and falling in love with a mortal, Kratos exiled himself far from Olympus, in the Scandinavian lands of Midgard, to found a family there, complete with a son named Atreus.

But Greek mythology gives a privileged place to tragedies… and also to Scandinavian mythology. After a few years, death robs Kratos of his love and fate exposes his secrets, drawing the gaze of the local deities, who quickly turn hostile.

Kratos and Atreus, whose dysfunctional relationship is made up of paternal silences and growls, are then involved in an adventure that will take them to the nine worlds of Norse mythology.

There they will find charismatic allies and enemies in sometimes grandiose environments, but they will also learn to know and communicate with each other. It is this relationship that constitutes, in fact, the true crumb of a story driven by their common desire to fulfill the last will of the deceased.

His son’s presence alongside Kratos allows downtime to be filled with dialogue, and Atreus helps him solve puzzles and fights without becoming a liability.

But above all, the company of this boy he called “Niño” creates a contrast that enriches the protagonist. On the one hand we find Kratos the warrior god, almost invincible, austere and disciplined, while on the other hand we discover Kratos the father, vulnerable and less master of his emotions when his son is threatened.

We come to care more about this relationship than about his mission or the machinations of the Asgardian gods, even appreciating the moments when Kratos, fearful or tender, lets the name of Atreus slip from his mighty jaws.

Add to that a stage with a worked staging well served by exciting cutscenes and Dantesque confrontations in a larger than life universe and it’s safe to say that the adventure that God of War offers is worthy of its action sequences.

PS4’s flagship game of 2018 could be one of the best PC games of 2022.
