In the coming months, Google Photos users will be able to combine their photos and videos with music and captions to create small clips. Google announced last week that Chromebook users will have access to a new video editor before anyone else.
The web giant also introduced new default apps for Chrome as well as updates to existing apps. Everything is designed to improve user productivity.
New Chromebook features will arrive just before the school season, a big time of the year for Chromebook sales. It’s also a must for Google because these entry-level laptops need a boost. Why ? Because this year, buyers have shown more interest in high-end PCs. Chromebook shipments from HP and Lenovo have dropped sharply since mid-2021.
Create movies from scratch
With the video editing tool, users will be able to create movies from scratch by choosing which videos and photos to include. They can also choose one of the suggested themes and people (or pets) for the scene, and Google will take care of the rest. According to Google, the tool will be able to “intelligently” select the most significant sequences in long videos.
Google is also planning to add the LumaFusion app to Chromebooks for professional video editing. This multi-track video editing tool allows you to add graphic effects, visual effects, transitions and distortions, audio tracks and sound effects, narration, color grading and more.
In terms of productivity, this week Google is adding new PDF editing features to Gallery, Chomebook’s default media app. A new Cursive app is preinstalled for capturing, editing, and organizing handwritten notes on your Chromebook with a stylus. You can then copy and paste your notes into another app, or send them as a PDF. The Screencast app, also preinstalled, allows you to record, view and share videos and transcribed presentations.
