HARMAN Ready Care is designed to help you drive smarter and reduce stress.

This week, HARMAN International introduced a new automotive AI system in the form of its new Ready Care system. Capable of detecting driver behavior and helping you drive more intelligently by using context and intervention when necessary to provide a safer environment for drivers. According to Harman, Ready Care consists of a range of incar solutions, including Cognitive Distraction, StressFree Routing and Personalized Comfort, that can be combined or used independently depending on your needs, reducing driver stress and improving road safety.

HARMAN developed Ready Care to measure driver eye activity and condition with a global shutter infrared camera with active illumination that tracks the driver’s face in both low and high light conditions. Using facial expressions, glances, eyelid openings and more, the system creates a realtime data catalog that allows it to alert drivers to certain circumstances. The system is compatible with a range of navigation systems and is able to provide stressfree routing due to its ability to detect realtime stressors such as traffic jams and react accordingly.

“Safety remains a top concern for consumers when considering a new vehicle purchase, and now, with Ready Care, OEMs can significantly improve vehicle safety,” said Armin Prommersberger, senior vice president, automotive product management at HARMAN International. “Ready Care is essentially a copilot that notices when distractions can turn into dangerous situations and intervenes to avoid them. For the first time, the vehicle can in some sense know what the driver is thinking; it changes the rules of the game. We are incredibly proud and excited about the impact Ready Care will have on drivers, passengers and all road users.”

“Because all trips and drivers are unique, Ready Care uses advanced machine learning technologies to provide customized intervention strategies tailored to each individual and their driving experience. Ready Care provides feedback intervention through the SDK, allowing OEMs and third parties to integrate any vehicle features or functionality such as HVAC control, multimedia content and volume or seat sensors into a Ready Care solution. An example is the advanced technology offered by Gentherm, a global market leader in innovative temperature control and pneumatic comfort technologies for the automotive industry.”
