HBO reports that almost 10 million viewers watched the premiere of “House of Dragons” in the US.

Despite annoying hiccups for some people trying to watch with Fire TV Sticks, HBO announced that the first episode of the Game of Thrones spinoff House of the Dragon had its biggest network premiere of all time, with 9.986 million viewers on line and streaming. HBO Max on Sunday Night in the US on its own.

The original Game of Thrones series ended with 13.7 million live viewers on linear channels before the finale in 2019, reaching over 19 million views with the addition of streaming and videoondemand. And people were unhappy with that last season. Leading up to Dragon’s premiere, interest in the original series skyrocketed, HBO reports, with average weekly streaming up 90 percent in August in July. Obviously, there is a lot of interest in more Game of Thrones.

So it looks like viewers are still interested in the series after the last season of the previous show. HBO Chief Content Officer Casey Bloys said in a statement that “[i]It was great to see millions of Game of Thrones fans with us last night in Westeros. “House of the Dragon” has an incredibly talented cast and crew who put their heart and soul into the production, and we’re thrilled with the positive response from viewers.”
