With every new update released by Microsoft for Windows 11, some features are always hidden. Most of the time, you’ll see this in Developer Channel builds for Windows Insiders. Once these builds are made available to users, users will always be looking around to see what’s new and what items can be manually tweaked.
This time, users will be able to change the search button on the taskbar. From now on, the default search icon on the taskbar is a magnifying glass. However, there have been several reports where you can see that the magnifying glass icon has been replaced by various search bars. So, if you’re itching to activate the new search button on your Windows 11 PC taskbar, this guide is for you.
Enable new search buttons on the taskbar
To enable the new search buttons on the Windows 11 taskbar, you need to have two things on your PC.
If you’ve followed some of our Windows 11 guides, ViVeTool has been mentioned and often used to enable all of these features. If you don’t have ViVeTool, you can follow the steps below to download it.
- Fire up your favorite web browser and visit this GitHub page.
- Once the ViVeTool GitHub page is open, download the latest available version of the tool.
- Click the Download ViVeTool ZIP file. This is a small file that weighs just under 370 KB.
- After downloading the file, extract the file.
Enable search buttons
Now that you’ve installed the required Windows 11 Insider Preview update and have ViVeTool, it’s time to activate the new Windows 11 taskbar search button.
Here’s how you can change the search button on the taskbar of your Windows 11 PC. Please note that this will only work for users of the Windows Insider Program Developer Channels running Windows 11.
