If you need to free up space and storage on your Android phone or tablet, this guide will give you some useful tips to help you get some extra space on your device.
There are several things you can do to free up space on your Android device. This can be useful if your device does not have a microSD card slot or if you are already using the maximum capacity microSD card on your device.
Remove apps you don’t use
One of the easiest ways to free up space on your smartphone or tablet is to remove the apps you don’t use on your device. We all have apps on our devices that we’ve downloaded but haven’t used in a while.
Many of us, myself included, have apps that we have downloaded and used perhaps only once, the removal of which can free up much needed space on your device.
You can find out your least used apps from the Google Play Store app. Open the Play Store app on your device > select the “Personal” icon in the top right corner and select “Manage apps and device”.
Now go to Manage tab and choose Installed and then choose Least Used from the menu and it will show you the least used apps. Then you can decide which ones you don’t use much or don’t use at all and remove them. You’ll be surprised at how much storage space you can free up by deleting apps you don’t actually use.
Free up space with the builtin Free Up Space tool.
Another way to easily free up space on your Android phone or tablet is to use the builtin free space tool found in the settings menu on your device.
Go to “Settings” and select “Storage”. This will show you how much memory you are using and how much you have free. It will also show you what is using your storage like apps, videos, pictures, systems and more.
Now tap on Free Up Space and you will be taken to the Files app where you can tap on Clear to free up suggested files and items that Android thinks you don’t need. These are things like temporary files.
If you need to free up some more storage space, you can also use the tool in the “Storage” section, which will allow you to delete everything that is being used by a particular app or feature.
You can select something like “Messages” and then select “Clear Cache”, this will allow you to clear space on your device. You can also select “Clear Storage” for that specific app or feature, if you use this option it will clear the data from the app.
Move your photos to online storage
Another great way to free up storage space on your Android phone or tablet is to store photos online. If you’re like me and take a lot of photos, this is a great way to free up a decent amount of storage on your Android device.
To do this, open the Photos app and check if you are backing up your photos to Google Photos, if yes then you can delete the ones stored on your device. If not, enable this feature and then back up all your photos to Google Photos. You can find out how to do this on the Google website.
After backing up your photos to Google Photos, you can free up space on your device by changing your photo settings.
Open the Photos app on your Android phone, then select Photos Settings and then Free up device storage. The bottom of the screen will show you how much space you can free up on your device. Now click the “Free Up” button and you will get some extra space on your device.
If you follow all the tips above, it will help you free up space on your Android phone or tablet. We hope you find this guide helpful. If you have any questions, tips or suggestions, please leave a comment below and let us know.
